Here’s how it works:
Share Your Vision – Dreaming of a custom hat built just for you? The sky is the limit! To start the design consultation process, please email us at info@feltonhatco.com and please include your contact phone number and shipping address. If you have any details such as an inspirational hat picture, styles and colors you prefer, pictures of any other clothing you would like to match, or pictures of any specialty items you would like added to the hat (such as a family heirloom, a special piece of jewelry, or a small photograph), please include them. We LOVE 😍 when you send us heartfelt pieces to incorporate into your design! Please visit our gallery for some hat style ideas.
Next We Connect – Once we review your email, we will reach out to schedule a design consultation phone call and video chat if needed. We also offer in-person custom hat consultations by appointment at our Hat Lab in Ft. Myers, FL. We ask for a $50 deposit prior to the consultation that is then applied towards the cost of your hat. Most hats range from $75-350 plus shipping. Once we know your vision, we will provide a quote.
Settle Up & We Will Get to Work! – After payment is received, we will begin the process of creating your dream hat in our Hat Lab! We will reach out along the way if any further design decisions are required. Most hats are created and shipped in 2-4 weeks depending on your selections.
Here’s what you can expect during the hat design process:
Our Hat Styles – Choose between our felt cowboy, rancher, fedora, and pork pie hats or our large selection of straw hats, all available in a variety of colors. Choose 100% wool if you want it branded or a custom design burned. Our hats are one-size fits most and have an adjustable inner band.
Design Your Hat – The next step is to pick your hat band materials and embellishments to bring your vision to life. We will recommend fabrics, ribbons, handkerchiefs, cordage, etc., that suit you. From there we will hand-select other embellishments together such as feathers, playing cards, flowers, charms, brooches, bullets, rhinestone trim, cable chain, matches & matchbooks and more. Many of these can be added just about anywhere on your hat.
Burn It! – 100% wool hats can be branded (letters, numbers, or choose from 25 branding iron symbols) and scorching around the brim and/or crown if desired. If you’re daring, we can even burn a bullet hole in! Click to see our branding iron options.

Add Custom Embroidery – Embellish your crown with a hand-made embroidery scene. Imagine a desert cactus landscape, an ocean sunset, or mountain scenery on your one-of-a-kind custom hat!

Add Custom Burning – Some of our favorite projects to take on are those that include hand-burned customizations. Some of our favorites to recommend include flowers, feathers, scenery, script, and more. You dream it, we will try it!
